Mike Lanese
Co-Founder, Marketing Analytics

Mike brings his expertise in starting and operating venture-backed technology companies to Carmen Ventures. 


In addition to working with Carmen Ventures, Mike is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of OnSeen, Inc., a Columbus, Ohio-based early-stage company that is developing a command and control platform for mobile teams in the insurance, healthcare and government sectors. 


Mike is also a current Board member of Cultivate, a non-profit organization that helps entrepreneurs in Central Ohio start and grow businesses. 


Mike received degrees from the University of Oxford and The Ohio State University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, captain of the football team and two-time Academic All-American. 

Andy Dickson
Co-Founder, Advanced Materials

Andy began his career at CompuServe as the Internet was becoming a commercial force. While there, he managed connections in the Investor’s Forum – the basis of our Carmen Ventures community.


After various Internet start-ups in Austin, TX, he rejoined America Online prior to their merger with Time Warner. After moving back to Ohio, he became a charter member and Managing Director of the Ohio TechAngels, then the second-largest Angel investing group in the U.S. with 283 members. He made 49 investments in 32 startups and formed a company as a spin-out from Ohio State. He is currently leading SmartPaint – an advanced materials start-up – through the commercialization process. 

Andy holds B.S. degrees in Finance and Computer Science from The Ohio State University.

Mike Triplett
Co-Founder, Life Sciences

Michael Triplett is a visionary biotech leader with a passion for commercializing world-class science and technology. 

In addition to co-founding and leading Myonexus Therapeutics, a clinical stage gene therapy company, he’s also the co-founder and Managing Member of 1787 Bio, LLC, a life sciences investment organization. 


Michael earned a B.S. in chemical engineering, summa cum laude and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from The Ohio State University.

Ted Adams

Ted brings nearly three decades of experience on consulting expertise from the private and public sectors to guide clients through the complex challenges they face in the global economy. 


Prior to joining Carmen Ventures, Ted served as the Chairman of Grant Street Partners as well as Vice President & Senior Counsel for Corporate Affairs at L Brands. Before bringing his skill to L Brands, Ted began his career as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Ohio where he recovered assets for federal agencies and prosecuted health care fraud, debt recovery and asset forfeiture cases. 


Ted received his law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and his Masters’ Degree in Sports Management and Administration from The Ohio State University School of Human Ecology and Education.

Dave Williams

Dave Williams may have received his B.A, M.A., Ph.D. and Sc.D. from Cambridge University, but he’s a Buckeye through and through. 


Williams was the Dean of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University from 2011-2021, where they have 66,000 alumni and more than 25 companies that have grown out of the research in the College over the last decade. 


He also represents OSU on the Business Higher Education Forum, the Council on Competitiveness and the Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils. He also serves on the international advisory board of One Columbus, which is responsible for Central Ohio’s economic development and regional growth strategy.

J.D. Davids


Jeff (J.D.) Davids is a software company founder with over 30 years of experience building startup companies in California.  He is an 8-time venture capital backed entrepreneur with 6 successful exit events including 3 IPOs and 3 acquisitions. J.D. is an expert at fundraising and exit planning and he has closed over $1.5 billion in corporate financial transactions.  


J.D.'s SmartMoney Ventures education programs have had over 3,500 participants and upwards of 50 portfolio companies have raised over $140 million in funding in the last three years. He’s also the host of the SmartMoney Ventures podcast along with co-host, Dave Berkus.  

J.D. is a cum laude graduate of The Ohio State University’s Accounting Program and is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.  

Michael Camp

University Liaison

Dr. Camp will work with the leadership team to qualify new venture investment deal opportunities, sharing his technology commercialization expertise and representing Carmen Ventures within Ohio State and the broader academic and research communities.  Dr. Camp has led numerous academic programs at Ohio State in technology entrepreneurship, training more than 1,000 students in the advanced principles of innovation and lean startup. His award-winning programs have evaluated more than 500 technologies and resulted in dozens of startups that over the years have raised nearly $100 million in various forms of venture funding. Michael is also a partner in BioVentures Group, a boutique investment firm and venture development studio working with early-stage technology ventures in biotechnology.

Morley Stone

Morley Stone has been recognized as an international leader in human performance and biometrics with nearly 30 years in research and development. As the Senior Vice President for research at The Ohio State University, he’s developed external strategic relationships with federal agencies, research universities and the private sector. 


While at OSU’s research institute, Dr. Stone oversaw an annual budget of over $1 billion in basic and applied research and before that, he served as the Chief Technology Officer for the Air Force Research Laboratory. In addition to his research leadership, Dr. Stone has researched topics such as the interface of materials science, biotechnology, human performance and autonomous systems. 


Dr. Stone received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Carnegie Mellon University.
